Week Three

Week Three ATL50 Hockey League Results

Week three is in the books, and there are no longer any undefeated or winless teams.

In a week where defense seemed optional, the previously undefeated Stars were decisively beaten by the Red Wings with a score of 10-2. The Red Wings' victory was anchored by stellar goaltending from Paul Gwyn, who made 33 saves on 35 shots, boasting an impressive .943 save percentage. Offensively, Robbie Moore shined with a 5-point performance.

The second game was a classic "sticktime" high-scoring affair, with the Knights outlasting TechniPower in a 12-10 showdown. Defense was clearly not a priority in this game!

Dru Trimble led the Knights with a 6-point game, while Robin Stavely was the standout for TechniPower, also recording 5 points.

Next week's games are scheduled for the day before July 4th, and we need as many substitute players as possible.

See you on the ice.

In another exciting game, the Knights edged out the Red Wings 4-3, thanks to strong goaltending by Bill Yox. Despite a late rally by the Red Wings, Dru Trimble's 3-point performance sealed the win for the Knights.

Our seven substitute players made a notable impact, with Alex Mazur contributing 2 points.

Week Five ATL50 Hockey League Results

We are a quarter of the way through our inaugural ATL50 Hockey League season, and the points standings couldn't be much closer.

In the battle for first place, the Red Wings triumphed over the Stars with a decisive 7-3 victory. Dickie Moore led the charge for the Red Wings with a four-point night, while Craig Colby added three points.

In the second game of the night, TechniPower secured a much-needed 6-3 win against the Knights, thanks to a strong goaltending performance by Dave Gibbard and three points from league-leading scorer Mitch Malin and Mike Racz.

A reminder to everyone: please respect the on-ice officials and accept their calls. It needs to be enjoyable for them if we expect them to deliver their best performances. When we achieve perfection, then we can demand it.

Weekly Hockey Summary

First, I want to thank everyone for your sportsmanship with the on-ice officials this week. Thank you!!

We're starting to see a pattern emerge with two teams, the Red Wings and Stars, beginning to pull away from TechniPower and the Knights.

Game 1: The Red Wings took an early lead and maintained their momentum, defeating TechniPower 5-2. Scott Anderson delivered a solid performance in goal for the Red Wings, while four of their players each tallied two points. Trevor Maurer led TechniPower with two points.

Game 2: In a high-scoring, back-and-forth battle, the Stars triumphed over the Knights with an 11-6 victory. "Iron" Mike Zowine was the standout for the Stars, racking up four goals and four assists. Pete March also had an impressive night with five points. On the Knights' side, Jon Leven scored three points.

Mitch Malin, who forgot to bring beer but later "marginally" redeemed himself with non-Labatts Blue Light beer, remains the points leader with 16 points, though there might be some points deductions as a penalty. In a less serious offense, Jim Tobin brought good beer, but it was warm. :-)

That wraps up another week of men's over-50 hockey. See you next Wednesday!

Remember the puck drops for the first game at 5:45 sharp. We have the ice starting at 5:30 for warm ups.

Week Seven

Week Seven ATL50 Hockey League Results

Weekly Hockey Summary

There is a clear separation between the top two teams, the Red Wings and Stars, and the bottom two teams, TechniPower and Knights. This disparity is sparking speculation about the drafting approach and leadership of some team captains.

In game 1, the Stars defeated TechniPower 4-1. Stars' goalie Martin Cizek secured the win by stopping 28 of 29 shots. Brad Graff and Erik Belinfante each contributed two points for the Stars. Mitch Malin scored the lone goal for TechniPower.

In game 2, the dominant Red Wings overwhelmed the Knights with an 8-3 victory. Jay Arena led the Red Wings with a four-point night, including a hat trick. Robbie Moore also added three points. Five players on the Knights each contributed one point.

As a reminder, in two weeks, we will be asking each full-time player to pay 50% of next season's fee. This is part of our commitment to Center Ice, ensuring the league's continuity beyond a single season. Given the positive feedback and the list of potential full-time players, the risk in my opinion is "zero". However, we all need to uphold our commitment.

Week Eight ATL50 Hockey League Results

Weekly Hockey Summary Expanded Addition

Another captivating week of ice hockey saw some dramatic third periods. Were they collapses or remarkable comebacks? You decide. Additionally, two games hinted at potential ATL50 Cup champions, while two other teams seemed destined for the dubious honor of the Toilet Bowl Cup, given to the team and captain who lose both playoff games.

The ATL50 Championship Cup is a sight to behold. The winning team's roster will be engraved on this 27-inch, 25-pound beauty, only 5 inches shorter than the original, and will be on display for years to come.

The ATL50 Championship Cup

The Toilet Bowl Cup

Now, onto this week's games.

In the first game, TechniPower defeated the Knights 6-3, with Dave Gibbard stopping 46 of 49 shots for an impressive .939 save percentage. League points leader Mitch Malin led the scoring with 2 goals and an assist. The Knights' substitute players scored all three of their goals. The game was close until TechniPower surged with 5 goals in the third period.

The second game featured the tied first-place teams, the Red Wings and the Stars, ending in a 4-4 tie after our first 3-minute stop-time overtime. The Red Wings held a comfortable lead through the first two periods, but the Stars staged a comeback with 3 unanswered goals. Robbie Moore and Jim Tobin each had 2 points for the Red Wings, while JJ Deroy led the Stars with 2 points.

In the race for the Angry Barry Award for most penalty minutes, Greg Kelly leads with 14 minutes, closely followed by Tom Dolan. Winning this award is somewhat akin to the Toilet Bowl Cup – not exactly a title you aim for.

Week Nine

Week Nine ATL50 Hockey League Results

Weekly Hockey Summary

Week 9 is in the books, and the top two teams, the Red Wings and Stars, continue their winning streaks.

In the scoring race, Robbie Moore is quickly closing in on league leader Mitch Malin, tying for second place with Tru Trimble.

The first game of the week saw the Stars defeat the Knights 7-4. The game was close through the first two periods, but the Stars turned it on late in the second period, scoring 5 goals in just over one period. The Stars scoring was balanced across the team with Craig Roboson getting a goal and two assists for a 3 point night. Jon Levan and Jeff Moonshower each scored two points for the Knights. Jerome Foot-Fault who missed the last couple of games for the Knights proved he is not a difference maker. The Knights are favored to win the Toilet Bowl Cup.

In the second game, the first-place Red Wings faced TechniPower and secured a 7-5 victory with an empty net goal in the final 9 seconds. Josh Josephson led the Red Wings with a hat trick and an assist, while Robbie Moore scored two goals, including the easy empty netter. Jeff Peterson claimed he shot a 97 mile a hour wrist shot the that Phil Negro would have been proud of. We think someone opened the front door to the rink or the AC came on, which caused the puck to knuckle. That is too much information for a shot that did not score, but Jeff wanted his name in the write-up. Mitch Malin and Steve Keener each scored two points for TechniPower.

That wraps up another week of men's over-50 hockey. See you next Wednesday!

Week Ten

Weekly Hockey Summary

We are halfway through the season, and like the unyielding pattern of heat of the dog days of summer, the Red Wings and Stars have maintained their winning pattern.

In breaking news, Dickie Moore's little brother has climbed to the top of the points standings with a four-point night. Great job, Little Dick!

The two games also featured some impressive goaltending battles. Paul Gwyn, Dave Gibbard, and Martin Cizek all posted save percentages over .925, a first for the season. Bill Yox faced 30 shots before conceding a second goal, eventually being overcome by odd-man rushes.

Game Summaries

Game 1: Red Wings vs. Knights In a game that was close until the third period, the Red Wings defeated the Knights 8-1. Dickie Moore set up two goals for Robbie Moore, and Don Stubel had a three-point night. Jeff Peterson, making the summary for the second week in a row, notched two points for the Red Wings. Brian Stalzer scored the lone goal for the Knights.

Game 2: Stars vs. TechniPower The Stars edged out TechniPower 3-2 in another tight game. Craig Roboson led the Stars with two goals, while Steve Keener and Mike Lozano each added one for TechniPower.

Highlights and Updates

  • Previous scoring leaders Mitch Malin and Dru Trimble were both held scoreless this week.
  • Brad Graff is moving up the ranks of the penalty leaders.

Next week is rivalry week, featuring the same teams in a home-and-away series. The referees will need to be on high alert!

Week Eleven

Weekly Hockey Summary

Another week on the pond has passed, and we witnessed a major upset. The Knights dominated the Red Wings with a decisive 10-2 victory.

In the first game of the week, the Stars edged out TechniPower once again, securing a 3-2 win for the second consecutive week.

Before diving into this week’s action, I want to extend a big thank you to TechniPower and Jeff McCoy for donating our Championship Cup. A special shoutout goes to Alex Rye, who, despite what the CFO might think, dedicated countless hours to researching and ordering the trophy. It’s a real beauty, standing 28 inches tall—just 4 inches shorter than the Stanley Cup—and weighing in at about 23 pounds, only 5 or 6 pounds lighter than its NHL counterpart. Thank you, Jeff and TechniPower!

As fate would have it, the Knights, the current favorites to win the Toilet Bowl Cup (awarded to the team that loses both playoff games) have also arrived.

Flush that championship trophy away!

This week’s "Rivalry Wednesday" marked the conclusion of back-to-back home-and-away games. Rivalry week is always a challenge, with two games packed into less than a week.

The Stars triumphed over TechniPower once again, repeating their 3-2 victory from the first game with the same score in the second. Brad Graff was the standout, netting a hat trick by scoring in each period. Robin, it looks like you'll need to hand over your car tag plate to Brad for a week! On the losing side, Marc Salatino had a two-point night with a goal and an assist, while Jeff McCoy added his fifth goal of the season. Both goalies, Martin Cizek and Dave Gibbard, put on impressive performances, each maintaining a save percentage over .910.

The second game of the week delivered a surprising result as the Knights secured their third win of the season by overwhelming the Red Wings 10-2. This came just a week after the Red Wings had easily defeated the Knights 8-1. What a difference a week makes!

The Knights had several standout performances. Chris Quinn racked up six points with a goal and five assists, Chad Porter and Erik Hendricks each contributed three points, and Brian Stalzer and Jeff Moonshower both scored twice. Most impressive was the goaltending from Scott Anderson, who stopped 46 of 48 shots, achieving an incredible .958 save percentage.

For the Red Wings, not much went their way. Dickie Moore managed a goal and an assist, while Jeff Petersen (who, according to some, appears in these summaries more often than his skill level warrants) also found the net.

On a final note, Robbie Moore, with an assist, has taken the lead in the points race. We also have a new leader in penalty minutes.

That wraps up another week of men's over-50 hockey. See you next Wednesday!

I also want to thank all the full-time players who signed up for next season. We have a full roster with games starting November 13th. Thank you.

Weekly Hockey Summary

BREAKING NEWS....

Media reports from Canada, including the reputable Elliot Friedman, author of "32 Thoughts" for Sportsnet, suggest that Jeff McCoy, the General Manager and coach of TechniPower, might be at risk of losing his job. The situation is complicated by the fact that McCoy also owns the rights to the team's jerseys and name. When we reached out to McCoy for comment, he expressed confidence in his team, stating, "I have confidence in this team. We are so close to winning, and we will turn this situation around." He also said a little testly, "I never wanted this job anyways". Time will tell how this breaking situation plays out.

In a similar situation not too long ago, Jerome Feuiltault, captain of the Knights, appears to be backing McCoy. However, Feuiltault has publicly stated that he only "likes" of three of the four captains.

We will continue to monitor this developing story closely.

Speaking of Jerome Feuiltault, his Knights team has managed to turn things around recently, securing victories in their last two games after suffering a heavy 8-1 loss to the Red Wings in week 10. The Knights have since scored an impressive 21 goals in those two games. When asked about the team's recent success, Feuiltault credited the strategic move of shifting Mooney to forward and relocating Brian Stalzer back to defense. He said of particular importance was getting Stalzer off forward lines.

In another incident Pete March and 1 game suspended Mitch Malin have been referred to

Back to last night’s action: Two teams suffered heavy defeats, which their captains are chalking up to just a bad night.

In the first game, the Knights dominated TechniPower with a decisive 11-5 victory. The Knights jumped to an early three-goal lead, but TechniPower quickly responded with three goals of their own, ending the first period tied at 3-3. However, the Knights took over in the final two periods, scoring an additional eight goals to seal the win.

Steve Keener led TechniPower with two goals and an assist, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Knights' onslaught.

For the Knights Craig Maxwell had a hattrick that they are still talking about, while Steve Woods and Jeff Moonshower each contributed 2 goals.

In the second game, the Red Wings completely overpowered the Stars, winning 7-0. Goalie Paul Gwyn recorded a shutout and remarked, "I've never had an easier shutout," which could serve as bulletin board material.

The Red Wings were clearly in control from start to finish, showcasing a dominant performance. For the Red Wings Dickie Moore had a hattrick and an assist, while Tim Conti added 2 goals.

The leading scorer continues to be Robbie Moore with 25 points, closely followed by Dru Trimble with 23 points.

In other news, the dreaded "turd" trophy—a dubious honor indicating the team most likely to win the "Toilet Bowl"—has shifted from the Knights to TechniPower for the first time. Vegas has set the odds at 25-1 that TechniPower will hold onto this title for the rest of the season. However, with the team’s pride on the line, betting against those odds might not be a bad idea.

Weekly Hockey Summary

Before we dive into this week's action, there are a couple of important reminders to cover.

First, please be mindful of slashing and stick infractions. We're seeing too many slashes to the wrists and arms, which increases the risk of injury. Take this seriously, or we’ll have to ask the referees to crack down, which could result in a parade to the penalty box. According to Rule 634, even getting your stick horizontal near another player’s wrists or arms can be called a slash, so please take extra care.

Second, the playoffs are fast approaching! They begin Wednesday, October 30th, with the finals scheduled for November 6th. No substitute players will be allowed in these games, so please make every effort to be available. All teams will play in both weeks.

In Week 13, both matchups were close, ending with identical 6-3 scores. Each winning team secured their victory with an empty-net goal. Goaltending was solid across the board, and aside from a single point from Dru Trimble, the scoring leaders were kept in check.

In the first game, the Stars took an early lead with a goal by Brad Graff, but the Knights quickly responded with two goals from Dru Trimble and Steve Woods. With just two minutes left in the first period, Shawn Dooley tied it up for the Stars. The second period belonged to the Stars, as Shawn Dooley scored again, followed by a powerful slap shot from Chip Humphrey that found the back of the net. In the third period, Gavin Morton brought the Knights closer with a goal, but Craig Robson sealed the win with an empty-netter, leaving the final score at 6-3.

In the second game, TechniPower silenced the Canadian media rumors about Jeff McCoy’s management security, by delivering a strong message and a 6-3 victory over the first-place Red Wings. Jeff McCoy responded to he media after the game and said, "we are a proud team and we are just starting to hit our stride".

The Red Wings struck first with a goal from Jay Arena, followed shortly by Josh Josephson, making it 2-0. TechniPower answered with a beautiful beside the net tip-in from Tim Conti off a Mike Zowine pass. However, Josephson added another, giving the Red Wings a 3-1 lead. Just before the first period ended, Lonnie Weakland closed the gap to 3-2. That would be the last goal for the Red Wings, as TechniPower owned the rest of the game, scoring four unanswered goals. John Knudsen and Vince Bakshani each netted two, with the final goal going into an empty net, for a 6-3 TechniPower victory.

Standout performances came from Jay Arena and Tim Conti, who each finished with 3 points.

You should have bet against Vegas as the "turd" was only owned by TechniPower for one game.

That wraps up another exciting week of hockey. See you next Wednesday!

Week Fourteen

Weekly Hockey Summary

As we pass the two-thirds mark of the season, the battle for first place remains fierce. The Stars and Red Wings are tied at the top with 19 points each. However, the Red Wings boast an impressive goal differential of +32, compared next best team, the Stars that are +5. According to inside reports, Jim Tobin has an individual plus/minus of +38, which seems to be a key factor. While individual plus/minus isn't officially tracked, Tobin is pushing for the NHL Edge player tracking system to monitor it. Robbie Moore opposes this move, as the system also tracks player skating speed. Any updates on this will be reported here.

On the scoring front, Robbie Moore continues to lead with 25 points, but he, Trimble, and Malin, the top three, have shown little progress over the last three weeks. Injuries have kept Dickie Moore, the more talented of the Moore brothers, from overtaking his brother Robbie in the race.

One player making a quiet surge is Jay Arena, who's been on fire over the past two weeks. Now in 5th place and just 5 points behind the leader, he's becoming a key player that other teams will need to watch closely. The Red Wings' depth is a testament to team captain Brian Daley's drafting abilities, earning him the affectionate nickname "Coach BD." The only question for the Red Wings is whether there are enough pucks to satisfy all their offensive talent.

Speaking of captains, Jeff McCoy seems to be off the hot seat, as TechniPower has responded with back-to-back wins over the two top teams. We’re reaching out to insider Elliot Friedman for more on the Knights and Jerome Feuiltault, who have taken a firm grip on the "turd," a less-than-coveted indicator of potential Toilet Bowl champions. However, the playoffs could shit everything.

This week's action saw the Red Wings bounce back from their loss to TechniPower with a dominant 7-3 win over the Knights. Jay Arena led the charge with 3 goals and 2 assists, racking up a 5-point night. Josh Josephson, closely trailing Arena in the scoring race, continued his hot streak with 2 more goals. Despite Chris Quinn’s efforts for the Knights, contributing a goal and two assists, it wasn’t enough to keep them in the game.

In the second game, TechniPower took down another first-place team for the second straight week, defeating the Stars 4-2. Captain Jeff McCoy, rejuvenated, led the way with 2 goals. The Stars struggled to find the back of the net, and a late empty-net goal sealed their fate. Rich Langtree had a goal and an assist for the Stars, but it wasn’t enough to pull out a win.

Weekly Hockey Summary

Batten down the hatches, hurricane Helene is fast approaching. Please be careful.

Speaking of battening down the hatches the playoffs are fast approaching in only 4 weeks. On the ice, the excitement is ramping up as the playoffs near, and this week we saw two nail-biting games that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Game 1: TechniPower vs. Stars

In the first game, TechniPower pulled off a thrilling 4-3 comeback win over the Stars. Mitch Malin led TechniPower with a goal and and two assist, while Tim Conti netted two for the Stars. Goalie Dave Gibbard was solid for TechniPower, stopping 32 of 35 shots for a .914 save percentage.

The game started with the Stars’ Rich Lanktree scoring early in the first period to give his team a 1-0 lead. TechniPower’s Tony Brown answered back midway through the period to tie it up. Conti’s first breakaway goal late in the period put the Stars ahead 2-1. It was a rough start for TechniPower who were outshot 14 to 4 in the first period. Conti scored again on a breakaway halfway through the second period, putting the Stars up 3-1. However, Robin Stavely’s late-period snipe with just 7 seconds left in the second period proved to be the game’s TSN turning point, bringing TechniPower within one goal at the end of the second period.

TechniPower came alive in the third, with goals from Steve Keener and Mitch Malin to secure the victory. The Stars pushed hard in the final five minutes but couldn’t find the equalizer, sealing a tough loss.

Game 2: Red Wings vs. Knights

The second game of the night was another wild one. The Red Wings jumped to an early 3-0 lead with goals from Jon Hurd, Robbie Moore, and Hurd again midway through the game. The Knights responded with back-to-back goals from Dru Trimble and Jeff Moonshower, gaining momentum. However, with under two minutes left in the second period, John Knudsen put the Red Wings back on top 4-2.

The Knights came out strong in the third, with Rob Leven scoring early to bring them within one, and Jami Henkemeyer tied it up midway through the period. Both goalies—Bill Yox for the Knights and Paul Gwyn for the Red Wings—put on stellar performances, with Yox stopping 34 of 39 shots and Gwyn saving 28 of 32.

Overtime was an intense back-and-forth affair, with both teams creating chances. It looked like the game was headed for a tie until Tyler Edgarton’s wrist shot found the back of the net with just 16 seconds remaining, giving the Red Wings a dramatic 5-4 victory.

Scoring Leaders

Robbie Moore continues to top the scoring race with 30 points, though he’s been missing the presence of his brother, Dickie Moore, who sits in third place with 27 points despite playing five fewer games. Dru Trimble holds second place with 28 points, followed by Mitch Malin in fourth place with 26 and Jay Arena close behind with 25 points.

  • Mitch Malin: 24 minutes
  • Greg Kelly: 16 minutes
  • Pete March: 12 minutes

Weekly Hockey Summary

Several notable players missed Wednesday’s game due to a golf outing. What happens at the CGI golf tournament stays there, though it’s worth mentioning that two of our more recognizable players donned green fluorescent dresses paired with pink flowery hats during Saturday’s final round—it was quite the spectacle but hard to see.

The absence of these players led to some intriguing game data, prompting the Central Scouting Committee to scramble and adjust their Season 2 draft projections.

Despite his absence (see dress comment above), Robbie Moore still holds onto the scoring lead. Meanwhile, plus/minus leader Jim Tobin had a rough night, finishing with a minus-5 rating, and Dickie Moore’s performance without his brother Robbie left much to be desired, failing to score a single point.

Game 1: TechniPower 5, Knights 3
The red-hot TechniPower team continued their dominant run with a 5-3 victory over the Knights, who have almost certainly clinched the league's bottom spot and are the leading candidate for the playoffs Toilet Bowl. Robin Staveley shined with 2 goals and 2 assists, while John Knudsen contributed a goal and an assist for the Stars. The Knights held a 2-1 lead after the first period, but TechniPower took control with three unanswered goals in the second. The teams exchanged goals in the third. Steve Woods stood out for the Knights with a goal and an assist. TechniPower’s usual strong goaltending performance was led this time by Scott Anderson, stopping 34 of 37 shots. Brian "Angryman" Stalzer took the spotlight for penalties, racking up 24 minutes to bring his league-leading total to 28, earning himself a one-game suspension.

Game 2: Stars 6, Red Wings 2
The Stars demolished the Red Wings 6-2 in a game that turned out to be an analytics nightmare for a couple of Red Wings players, while also boosting the profile of the current points leader. Brad Graf led the Stars with 2 goals and an assist, while four other players—Tom Dolan, Doc Feinberg, Shawn Dooley, and JJ Deroy—each had two points. Mike Drake, in his first start, was stellar in net, posting a .933 save percentage on 30 shots. The Red Wings struggled to break through, though Tyler Edgarton did manage to record two assists.

Weekly Hockey Summary

This week featured two closely contested games, with just two more matchups left for all teams before the playoffs begin. A quick reminder: playoffs start on Wednesday, October 30th, and will wrap up Wednesday, November 6th. Every team will play both rounds, and no substitute players will be allowed during the playoffs.

Looking ahead, the next season kicks off on Wednesday, November 13th. We will be collecting the remaining balance of $335 for the upcoming season on October 28th via an automatic charge to your credit card.

Now, let's get back to this week's action. The scoring race remains extremely close, with only 4 points separating the top five players. Robbie Moore leads the pack with 30 points, followed by Dru Trimble with 28. Dickie Moore and Mitch Malin are tied at 27 points, while Jay Arena rounds out the group with 26 points. In the goal-scoring race, four players—Robbie Moore, Trimble, Arena, and Brad Graf—are tied with 16 goals each.

In a surprising twist, Jim Tobin’s plus/minus rating dropped by two points, even though he was out sick with COVID. An investigation is ongoing to figure out how that happened.

Game 1: Knights 4, Stars 3

The Knights staged a third-period comeback after trailing 3-2 at the end of two periods, scoring two unanswered goals to claim the win. Erik Hendricks led the charge for the Knights with a goal and an assist. On the Stars' side, Tim Conti contributed a goal and an assist in a hard-fought effort.

Game 2: Red Wings 2, TechniPower 2

The second game of the night ended in a 2-2 tie, thanks to excellent goaltending on both sides. Paul Gwyn made 30 saves for the Red Wings, while Dave Gibbard stopped 29 shots for TechniPower. The Red Wings jumped out to a 2-0 lead, with Josh Josephson contributing a goal and an assist, including a slick tip-in pass to Jay Arena. Mike Zowine finally broke Gwyn’s shutout late in the second period, scoring from close range. In the third period, Steve Keener buried a rebound to tie the game. Despite heading into overtime, neither team managed to score the game-winner.

Breaking News ........ Plus/Minus Gate

Last week, despite not playing, Jim Tobin saw his plus/minus rating drop by two points, prompting an extensive investigation into the accuracy of the ATL50 league’s plus/minus stats. After consulting NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, ATL50 Commissioner Dave Gibbard addressed the issue in an exclusive interview with TSN.

“With a heavy heart, our investigation confirmed that our plus/minus stats are indeed inaccurate, and I sincerely apologize to those affected,” Gibbard said. When asked if there would be consequences for this error, Gibbard replied, "We don't discuss internal discipline in the media." Regarding the future of the plus/minus stat in the league, he added, "Without accuracy, we will shut it down and rely on players self-reporting honesty."

Much to the chagrin on Jim Tobin and the joy of Jeff McCoy, the ATL50 plus minus stats are over, ending the only real controversy in this inaugural season.

As the season nears its end, the scoring race remains tight, with Robbie Moore leading at 30 points, followed closely by Dru Trimble (29), Dickie Moore (28), Mitch Malin (27), and Jay Arena (26).

In last night's action, the Red Wings solidified their first-place position with a 4-3 overtime win over the Stars, who remain lockked in second. Meanwhile, the race for third and fourth places intensified as the Knights edged out TechniPower 5-4, leaving both teams tied at 15 points with one game left.

Tiebreakers for standings are determined by:

  1. Total points
  2. Total wins
  3. Head-to-head record
  4. Plus-minus in head-to-head games
  5. Overall plus-minus
  6. Coin toss

TechniPower and the Knights are tied in the first three categories, and with the one goal win last night, the Knights lead TechniPower by one goal in the plus-minus head-to-head.

Going into the final week, we could see the teams that play each other in the final week also being the first round matchups in the playoffs.

Game 1: Red Wings 4, Stars 3 (OT) The Red Wings dominated early, outshooting the Stars 14-2 in the first period, but a costly turnover by Robbie Moore led to a goal by Tyler Grahovec on only their second shot of the game. Stars goalie Scott Anderson’s strong play kept them in the game in the first period. In the second period, both teams traded goals, with Jon Hurd scoring for the Red Wings and Tom Dolan netting a shorthanded breakaway for the Stars. The Red Wings struck twice early in the third, with goals from Tyler Edgarton and Dickie Moore, but the Stars tied it late, thanks to JJ Deroy. Just 15 seconds into overtime, Josh Josephson scored to secure the win for the Red Wings.

Game 2: Knights 5, TechniPower 4 In another back-and-forth match, the Knights outlasted TechniPower. Mike Zowine opened the scoring for TechniPower. The Knights answered with two goals from Jerome Feuiltault on a high defection from a shot by Gavin Morton, and a breakaway goal from Dru Trimble. Feuiltault added another goal in the second period, while Steve Woods also scored, giving the Knights a 4-1 lead. In the third, TechniPower fought back with goals from Cliff Wilcox and Tim Conti, closing the gap. Craig Maxwell’s empty-netter seemed to seal the win for the Knights, but Tony Brown scored with 20 seconds left, though TechniPower couldn’t find the equalizer.

See you on Wednesday. That wraps up another exciting week of hockey.

TechniPower had a rough start when the Red Wings’ Josh Josephson scored just 25 seconds into the game. The first period remained close until Steve Keener tied it up for TechniPower with less than two minutes left, but Robbie Moore quickly answered, giving the Red Wings a 2-1 lead going into the second period. Both sub goalies performed well, with TechniPower’s Scott Anderson stopping 33 of 36 shots and Mike Drake standing strong for the Red Wings stopping 25 of 30 shots.

In the second period, Rob Leven tied the game for TechniPower, followed by a go-ahead goal from Tim Conti, giving TechniPower a 3-2 lead at the end of the second.

Championship Finals

ATL50 Championship Games

The inaugural season wrapped up in thrilling fashion with a Championship game that saw both teams battling back and forth, ultimately decided in overtime as TechniPower clinched a 4-3 victory over the regular season champions, the Red Wings.

TechniPower’s journey to the title was nothing short of remarkable. Just ten weeks earlier, in week twelve, Canadian media reports—including insights from the respected Elliot Friedman, author of 32 Thoughts for Sportsnet—hinted that General Manager and Coach Jeff McCoy might be on the brink of losing his position. Against all odds, McCoy and his team turned things around, capping off their season with a Championship win.

Congratulations to Jeff McCoy and the entire TechniPower team!

Championship Final Red Wings vs TechniPower

The Red Wings came out strong, outshooting TechniPower 12-5 in the first period, but TechniPower weathered the early onslaught. Five minutes into the game, Robin Stavely, the game’s eventual MVP, opened the scoring off a pass from Vince Bakshani. Less than a minute later, Red Wings' Dickie Moore fired back with a goal from the slot, leveling the game at 1-1. This set the stage for a duel between Stavely and Moore, who accounted for all seven goals in the game.

With 7:15 left in the first period, Stavely found the net again, capitalizing on a rebound from Mike Zowine. But Moore responded with a beautiful goal, slipping behind the net and tucking the puck over David Gibbard’s pad and glove, tying the game 2-2 with just a minute left in the period.

The second period saw both teams settling in, with neither able to break through against goalies Paul Gwyn and Gibbard.

Nine minutes into the third period, Moore completed his hat trick with a perfectly placed shot off the crossbar, giving the Red Wings their first lead of the game. Jay Arena and Robbie Moore were credited with the assists. Just four minutes later, Stavely completed his own hat trick, converting a crisp pass from Cliff Wilcox, with Lonnie Weakland providing the secondary assist, to even the score at 3-3. The Red Wings pressed hard in the final minute of regulation, but the game remained tied, pushing it into overtime.

In 3-on-3 overtime, TechniPower won the opening faceoff and played it cool, in the best Muhammad Ali rope a dope style, pulling back into their own zone and waiting for an opening. This drew the Red Wings’ defense deep, setting up a golden opportunity when Tony Brown chipped the puck out, catching all three Red Wings behind the play. Stavely and Brown broke away for a two-on-zero, with Brown delivering a nice pass to Stavely at the goalmouth. Gwyn stretched to cover the bottom of the net, but Stavely deftly lifted the puck over his pads, sealing the overtime victory and securing the Championship for TechniPower.

It was a thrilling end to a memorable inaugural season.

Toilet Bowl Knights vs Stars

The first game of the night featured a consolation round showdown between the last-place Knights, infamous owners of the regular season “turd,” and the second-place Stars. At stake was the notorious "Toilet Bowl" for the losing team, and the Stars dominated, skating to a decisive 10-4 victory.

The Knights, short on players, faced an uphill battle from the start. The Stars seized control quickly, outshooting the Knights 16-6 in the first period. Despite goalie Mike Drake's best efforts, the Stars scored three times in the opening period: JJ Deroy opened the scoring with help from Andrew Feinberg, followed by goals from Craig Robson (assisted by Tom Dolan) and Erik Belinfante (with another assist from Dolan). The period ended with the Stars up 3-0.

Five minutes into the second period, the Knights got on the board thanks to a goal from Dru Trimble, assisted by Steve Woods. However, the Stars quickly responded, piling on three more goals: Brad Graf scored with an assist from Feinberg, Belinfante notched his second of the game (assisted by Dolan and Legros), and Robson tallied his second, this time with help from Belinfante and Graf. The second period closed with the Stars leading comfortably at 6-1.

Fatigue set in for the Knights in the third period, and the Stars continued their relentless pace. Belinfante completed his hat trick with an assist from Dolan, who capped off a stellar five-point night. The Knights’ Jeff Moonshower answered back, scoring with help from Jerome Feuiltault. However, the Stars responded immediately with a goal from Brian MacDonald, assisted by Dolan and Feinberg. The Knights fought on, adding two more goals—one from Woods and another from Moonshower, with assists from Feuiltault and Craig Maxwell—but that was the end of their rally. The Stars closed out the game with two late goals from Deroy and Graf, sealing their dominant 10-4 win.

With the win, the Stars avoided the "Toilet Bowl," leaving it in the hands of the Knights.
